Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences between color and sound; a common experience that Jenna Sherman has while painting.
The subject of each portrait provided Jenna with a playlist of music. After listening, she was then able to construct a composition and color pallet based on the synesthetic experience she had. Jenna then created an electronically produced soundtrack to emulate the portrait subject’s energy. The result reveals how ones identity can be defined with color and sound through the intertwining of music, energy, and her relationship to her subject.
